Danny Sauro: A 2015 TIME Dealer of the Year Nominee Right Here at Tischer Acura Nissan


As you may have heard, our very own Danny Sauro, owner of Tischer Acura Nissan, was nominated this year for the 46th annual TIME Dealer of the Year Awards. The nominees were part of a select group of dealers from across the country that were honored at the 98th annual National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Convention & Exposition in San Francisco, California, on January 23, 2015. But what you may not know is what this award represents. You might be surprised to learn this award is strongly tied not just to the dealer or dealership, but more precisely, to what the dealership has done for its surrounding community.

What are the TIME Dealer of the Year Awards?

The awards are presented in partnership with Ally Financial Inc., and in cooperation with the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA). According to the TIME Dealer of the Year website “The TIME Dealer of the Year program honors new-car dealers in America who exhibit exceptional performance in their dealerships and perform distinguished community service.” This is an extremely high honor as the nominees are part of a select group of dealers from across the country—a total of 55 nominees, to be exact. When you think about the sheer amount of new-car dealerships across the country (17,000 nationwide), a group of 55 is a pretty small percentage of the dealership population!

Community Service

According to Tim Russi, president of Auto Finance for Ally, “The dealers nominated for this award are dedicated business owners, auto lovers, and most importantly, champions for their local communities, with a willingness to give back on a grand scale.” We at Tischer already know how dedicated Danny is to our business and what an enthusiastic auto lover he is. This then begs the question: how has Danny Sauro as owner of Tischer Acura Nissan been a champion for the local community?

If you’ve been following our blog or our Facebook Page, you might recall that Tischer has an annual holiday toy drive to help collect toys for children in the area. We were also extremely honored to raise money this year for our local Susan G. Komen organization. Danny also contributes to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland, among other beneficiaries. “It feels good to be able to help these great causes,” he says.

Customer Service

A component of community service at large begins with a strong focus on customer service at the local dealership level. Having started his automotive career at Tischer Volkswagen Honda as a technician in 1976, Danny rose through the ranks to become a service advisor and then a service manager. He moved to Tischer Acura and became general manager before purchasing Tischer Acura Nissan in 2000. Having worked through the various departments of an auto dealership has made Danny keenly aware of what customers expect in all aspects of customer service. It’s for that very reason that Danny refers to his commitment to customer service as the “Tischer Difference.” He believes in extending customer care beyond the vehicle’s purchase with great maintenance services, and creating and fostering a lifetime dealer/owner relationship. According to Danny’s “hero profile” on Ally’s website, “I have been able to stand by my goal to enhance the professional image of our industry through exceptional customer service, which is very rewarding to me. Delivering the highest level of customer service will always be the driving force behind my company.”
