In our opinion, the 2013 Acura RDX is one of Acura’s finest creations. Not only is it beautifully designed inside and out, it’s also powerful, luxurious and gas-friendly
Like everything Acura does, the new 2013 RDX was built using thoughtful design and ingenious engineering. We think Acura does a great job describing the RDX in one short phrase:
“The 2013 Acura RDX provides the luxury and comfort of a large SUV with the moves and fuel economy of a small SUV.”
Many current RDX owners say that driving it puts you more in the mind of a sports car than an SUV. With a low center of gravity and features like speed-sensitive power steering, the new RDX handles with surprising agility. The 2013 RDX has the ability to be the perfect vehicle for any situation, and for that we love it!
Acura’s online brochure proclaims, “The 2013 Acura RDX is one part sport crossover, and one part luxury crossover.” We would have to agree with that statement! As a sport crossover, it has race-inspired paddle shifters that allow the driver to control the vehicle’s 6-speed automatic transmission with a flick of the wrist. As a luxury crossover, Acura’s unparalleled attention to detail on the RDX’s suspension system has created a fun-to-drive vehicle with a smooth and consistent ride.
We’ve put together a list of the best new features of the 2013 Acura RDX. Take some time to read them over and let us know what you think!
If you are looking at the 2013 Acura RDX and the latest Honda CR-V side-by-side, you’ll notice a striking resemblance. Acura, Honda’s luxury line of automobiles, uses the same basic platform as the CR-V in its design of the RDX. The 2013 RDX remains recognizable as an Acura, but its styling is more mature than before. It now looks more like a smaller version of the MDX, which is a draw for many customers. The big idea is getting a more sophisticated-looking car for a smaller price tag – always a good deal for our customers!
We know that you will notice that the new RDX grille has been toned down to match the look of the rest of Acura’s lineup, rather than the beak-like grille of the outgoing model.
The interior of the 2013 RDX has undergone a nice makeover as well. The door openings are larger and there is more passenger room and cargo space. The materials used to construct the interior are more sound-absorbing, which assists in creating a quieter, more comfortable ride for both the driver and the passenger. In addition, Acura has added several technology upgrades to enhance the experience of the RDX: Pandora Internet Radio, text-message features and more! (See “Technology Upgrades (General)”)
Under the hood of the all-new 2013 RDX is definitely where the action is! The 2013 model comes standard with a power-packed 3.5-liter V-6 engine that generates up to 273 horsepower (that’s two more cylinders and 33 more horsepower than the outgoing model’s turbo four cylinder!). Acura designed this new engine to provide both maximum power and maximum efficiency to drivers. But the greatest part about this newly-designed engine is that it has earned the best highway gasoline fuel economy for a V-6 in its class. How is this possible? The outstanding fuel economy comes courtesy of the engine’s Variable Cylinder Management™.
Variable Cylinder Management™ – When all six cylinders are not needed, such as during steady highway cruising, the system can deactivate either two or three of the cylinders, giving you more than enough power and increased fuel economy.
That’s a pretty smart vehicle!
Technology Upgrades (Safety)
The 2013 Acura RDX is outfitted with some of the most technologically-advanced safety features on the market. Some of our favorites include:
Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA™)- with motion-adaptive electric power steering, VSA™ works to sense oversteer or understeer and can brake individual wheels and/or reduce engine power to help keep you in control. The system also features a traction control function to help prevent wheelspin during acceleration.
Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) – The vehicle’s chassis features ACE™ body structure, which uses a conducted network of structural elements to help protect those inside by distributing frontal crash energy more evenly. A highly efficient side-impact structure, increased roof strength and energy-absorbing hood design also contribute to passenger protection.

One of the things we enjoy most about working with Acura is that the company is highly innovative and exceptionally forward-thinking. Each model year, they add features to their vehicles that not only help keep drivers safe, but also provide them with state-of-the-art technology at their fingertips.
The new 2013 Acura RDX has the following tech-savvy upgrades available:
Song by Voice™ technology with the available Acura/ELS audio system lets you call up a song by saying its title or artist.
SMS Text Message Function displays, and reads aloud, incoming text messages and lets you respond, hands-free, by verbally choosing from a list of six options.
Pandora Internet Radio interface connects with your iPhone, giving you access to an immense library of musical styles.
The power tailgate that is available with the 2013 RDX reveals one of the most spacious cargo areas available in this class. When the easy-fold rear seatbacks are lowered, you are presented with an astounding 79.2 cubic feet to play with. This really puts the “utility” in “sports utility vehicle!”
